Coupon Types
Coupon types range from the
simple to the downright complicated. It becomes a matter of (1) following the
specific instructions stated on the coupon and (2) adhering to the store's coupon policy.
Manufacturer's Coupons Cents off a single item This type of coupon is pretty simple and is the most common. You get X cents off the purchase of a single item. There is a one-to-one relationship between the number of items purchased and the the number of coupons used. In other words, you'll need a coupon for each item. Cents off multiples of an item This type of coupon requires that you buy a certain quantity of an item for the coupon to be valid. Buy fewer and you get no discount. Buy more and you get no additional discount (unless you present another coupon). Buy X quantity get X quantity free This is a pretty straightforward type of coupon. Depending upon your point of view, you are getting something free or you are receiving a discount on each of the items. Conditional The basic format of this type of coupon is: If you buy x, you'll get y free or at a discount. Transaction-related The fine print on this type of coupon states that you can only use a certain number of the particular coupon when you check out. Language examples: - "Limit one coupon or offer per guest" - "Limit one coupon per transaction" In order to use more than one of these coupons, you will have to check out more than once. In-Store Coupons As the name implies, this type of coupon is meant to be used in the store (or chain) issuing the coupon. Other restrictions may apply as described above. Tip: Stores like Publix usually have sale flyers at the front of the store that contain in-store coupons. Tip: Check your store's coupon policy to see if they accept competitor store coupons and, if so, from which competitors. Conditional In-Store Coupons The format of this type of coupon is: spend $x (before coupons) and get a $y discount. Publix periodically offers this type of discount.
